There is nothing quite like the smell of these pumpkin cinnamon rolls baking in the oven on a chilly autumn morning. They are incredibly soft and the pumpkin puree gives the dough such a lovely golden color and tender texture.

My biggest tip is to make sure your milk is warm but not hot before adding the yeast. If it is too hot, it will kill the yeast and the rolls will not rise properly. Take your time with the dough and you will be rewarded with the best breakfast treat.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup warm milk
  • 2 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1/2 cup pumpkin puree
  • 1/4 cup melted butter
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 1/2 cups all purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon cinnamon
  • 4 ounces softened cream cheese
  • 2 tablespoons maple syrup
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar

11Instructions

  1. 1

Combine the warm milk and yeast in a bowl and let it sit for five minutes until foamy.

  2. 2

Mix in the pumpkin puree, melted butter, sugar, and egg.

  3. 3

Stir in the flour and pumpkin pie spice until a soft dough forms, then knead for five minutes.

  4. 4

Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it, and let it rise in a warm spot for one hour.

  5. 5

Roll the dough out into a rectangle on a floured surface.

  6. 6

Mix the brown sugar and cinnamon together and sprinkle the mixture evenly over the dough.

  7. 7

Roll the dough into a tight log and cut it into eight equal slices.

  8. 8

Place the rolls in a baking pan, cover them, and let them rise for another 30 minutes.

  9. 9

Bake at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 20 to 25 minutes until golden.

  10. 10

Whisk the cream cheese, maple syrup, and powdered sugar together to make the frosting.

  11. 11

Spread the frosting over the rolls while they are still warm.

Tips

Store any leftover rolls in an airtight container at room temperature for up to two days. You can also warm them up in the microwave for ten seconds to get that fresh out of the oven softness again.
