There is something so satisfying about the smell of cinnamon and sugar toasting in the oven. These pecans are a total favorite in my house because they are simple to prepare and taste so much better than the store bought bags. They have that perfect glassy crunch that makes them hard to stop eating once you start.

My biggest tip for this recipe is to watch your oven timer closely. Sugar can go from perfectly caramelized to burnt very quickly, so take them out as soon as the coating looks dry and golden brown. They will continue to crisp up as they cool on the tray.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups raw pecan halves
  • 1 large egg white
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

8Instructions

  1. 1

Preheat your oven to 250 degrees Fahrenheit and line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.

  2. 2

In a medium bowl, whisk the egg white and water together until the mixture is very frothy.

  3. 3

Add the pecan halves to the egg white mixture and stir until every nut is evenly coated.

  4. 4

In a separate small bowl, mix the sugar, cinnamon, and salt together.

  5. 5

Pour the sugar mixture over the pecans and toss until the nuts are well coated with the cinnamon sugar.

  6. 6

Spread the pecans in a single layer on your prepared baking sheet.

  7. 7

Bake for one hour, making sure to stir the nuts every 15 minutes to ensure even cooking.

  8. 8

Remove from the oven and let them cool completely on the baking sheet before serving.

Tips

Store these in an airtight container at room temperature for up to two weeks. They make a lovely homemade gift if you put them in small jars with a ribbon. Try crushing them over vanilla ice cream or a fresh spinach salad for a nice crunch.
