These Sloppy Joes are a total staple in our house. After trying many versions to match the classic style my kids love, I landed on this simple blend of seasonings and sauces. It skips the chopped vegetables for a smooth, consistent texture that is always a hit at the dinner table.

I always serve these alongside crispy, buttery ranch potatoes because the combination is just perfect. It is a humble, fuss free meal that is ready quickly, making it a great option for busy weeknights when you want something satisfying.

Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon avocado oil
  • 2 lbs ground beef
  • 1 tablespoon onion powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons beef bouillon base
  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 2/3 cup BBQ sauce
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 24 ounces baby gold potatoes, halved or quartered
  • 1 tablespoon avocado oil for potatoes
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 1 tablespoon dry ranch seasoning
  • Hamburger buns for serving

9Instructions

  1. 1

Preheat your oven to 425 degrees.

  2. 2

Toss the potatoes with 1 tablespoon of avocado oil and a pinch of salt on a sheet pan, then roast for 25 to 30 minutes until crispy, stirring once halfway through.

  3. 3

While the potatoes roast, heat 1 tablespoon of avocado oil in a large skillet over high heat.

  4. 4

Add the ground beef and let it sit for a few minutes to develop a golden crust, then cook until browned and broken into small pieces.

  5. 5

Drain any excess oil from the pan if needed.

  6. 6

Stir in the onion powder, garlic powder, beef bouillon, and salt.

  7. 7

Mix in the ketchup, BBQ sauce, and water, simmering the mixture until the sauce is thick, glossy, and heated through.

  8. 8

Once the potatoes are done, remove them from the oven and toss them immediately with the butter and ranch seasoning.

  9. 9

Serve the beef mixture on soft hamburger buns with the ranch potatoes on the side.

Tips

If you do not have dry ranch seasoning, just toss the hot roasted potatoes in melted butter with fresh garlic and chopped dill. You can store leftover beef in an airtight container in the fridge for up to three days.
