Za'atar Ground Beef and Greens Skillet
A quick and flavorful dinner that brings Middle Eastern spices to your weeknight routine.
enzo81.xyzIf you are looking for a fast dinner that still feels special, this is the one for you. Ground beef takes on a whole new personality when it is seasoned with earthy, citrusy za'atar, and the greens add just the right amount of freshness to the skillet.
My biggest tip for this meal is to not rush the browning process. Let the beef get a nice golden crust before you add the greens, as that deep flavor really makes the spices pop.
Ingredients
- 1 pound ground beef
- 2 tablespoons za'atar seasoning
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 small yellow onion, diced
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 5 ounces fresh baby spinach or kale
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- Fresh parsley for garnish
6Instructions
- 1
Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
- 2
Add the onion to the skillet and cook until it becomes soft and translucent.
- 3
Stir in the ground beef, breaking it up with a wooden spoon as it cooks until it is browned all over.
- 4
Sprinkle the za'atar, salt, and pepper over the meat, then add the minced garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.
- 5
Add the greens to the pan a handful at a time, stirring until they are wilted down.
- 6
Remove the skillet from the heat, drizzle with fresh lemon juice, and garnish with chopped parsley before serving.
Tips
This dish is fantastic served over warm pita bread or fluffy basmati rice. If you have any leftovers, store them in an airtight container in the fridge for up to three days and reheat gently in a pan.
