Making candy at home is one of my favorite ways to get ready for Halloween. These peanut butter cups are much better than the ones you buy at the store because you can use high quality chocolate and adjust the sweetness just how you like it.

I love getting the kids involved with this recipe because it does not require any baking at all. It is a fun project for a rainy afternoon, and you can even use spooky cupcake liners to make them feel extra festive for your party.

Ingredients

  • 12 ounces semi sweet chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup creamy peanut butter
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

8Instructions

  1. 1

Line a standard muffin tin with paper liners or use mini liners for bite sized treats.

  2. 2

Melt half of the chocolate chips in the microwave in 30 second increments, stirring well each time until the mixture is smooth.

  3. 3

Spoon a small amount of melted chocolate into the bottom of each liner and spread it slightly to cover the base.

  4. 4

Place the tin in the freezer for about 10 minutes to let the chocolate set firmly.

  5. 5

While the base sets, stir together the peanut butter, powdered sugar, melted butter, and salt in a small bowl until the mixture is smooth.

  6. 6

Take the tin out of the freezer and place a small dollop of the peanut butter mixture in the center of each chocolate disc.

  7. 7

Melt the remaining chocolate chips and pour the chocolate over the peanut butter until it is completely covered and level.

  8. 8

Chill the treats in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes until they are solid and ready to eat.

Tips

Store these in an airtight container in the fridge so the chocolate stays crisp and does not melt. If you want to get creative, try topping them with a little sea salt or colorful orange and black sprinkles for a spooky look.
