Homemade Apple Focaccia Fritters
These sweet apple fritters combine the soft texture of focaccia with a golden cinnamon glaze for the perfect treat.
enzo81.xyzThere is something so special about the smell of apples and cinnamon drifting through the kitchen. These fritters are a favorite in my home because they balance that lovely fluffy center you expect from a great dough with the crisp edges everyone loves.
My top tip for these is to make sure your apple pieces are diced quite small. This ensures they cook through evenly and stay tucked inside the dough while you are frying them up to golden perfection.
Ingredients
- 2 cups all purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 teaspoon active dry yeast
- 3/4 cup warm water
- 1 large apple, peeled and finely diced
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- Oil for frying
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar
- 1 tablespoon maple syrup
- 1 tablespoon strong brewed coffee
8Instructions
- 1
Mix the flour, sugar, and yeast in a large bowl, then slowly add the warm water to form a soft dough.
- 2
Fold in the diced apples and cinnamon until they are evenly distributed throughout the dough.
- 3
Cover the bowl and let the dough rise in a warm spot for about one hour until it has doubled in size.
- 4
Heat about an inch of oil in a heavy skillet over medium heat.
- 5
Drop spoonfuls of the dough into the hot oil, being careful not to overcrowd the pan.
- 6
Fry the fritters for about three minutes on each side until they are deep golden brown.
- 7
Drain the fritters on paper towels while you whisk together the powdered sugar, maple syrup, and coffee to make the glaze.
- 8
Drizzle the warm glaze over the fritters and serve them while they are still fresh.
Tips
Store any leftover fritters in an airtight container at room temperature for up to two days. If you want them to taste fresh again, just pop them in the oven for a few minutes to bring back that crispy texture.
