Simple Skillet Pork Chops with Apples
This one pan meal pairs juicy pork chops with tender, sweet apples for a perfect fall dinner.
enzo81.xyzThere is something so special about cooking with apples when the air turns crisp. While we often reach for sugar and spice to make desserts, apples are truly wonderful in savory meals as well. The sweetness of the fruit cuts right through the richness of the pork, creating a balanced flavor that feels cozy and satisfying.
This recipe is a favorite in my kitchen because it comes together in just one pan. It is simple enough for a busy weeknight but tastes like you spent hours preparing it. I hope you enjoy this easy comfort food as much as my family does.
Ingredients
- 4 bone in pork chops
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 2 large apples, sliced into wedges
- 1 small onion, thinly sliced
- 1 teaspoon dried thyme
- 1/2 cup chicken broth
- Salt and black pepper to taste
- 1 tablespoon butter
8Instructions
- 1
Pat the pork chops dry with paper towels and season both sides generously with salt and pepper.
- 2
Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium high heat.
- 3
Add the pork chops to the skillet and sear until they are golden brown, about 4 minutes per side. Remove the chops from the pan and set them aside on a plate.
- 4
In the same skillet, add the sliced apples and onions. Cook them for about 5 minutes until they begin to soften and turn golden.
- 5
Stir in the dried thyme and pour in the chicken broth to deglaze the pan, scraping up any flavorful bits from the bottom.
- 6
Return the pork chops to the skillet along with any juices from the plate. Reduce the heat to low and cover the pan.
- 7
Simmer for about 5 to 7 minutes until the pork is cooked through and the apples are tender.
- 8
Stir in the tablespoon of butter at the very end to give the pan sauce a nice shine before serving.
Tips
Serve these pork chops alongside mashed potatoes or roasted root vegetables to soak up the extra sauce. If you have leftovers, store them in an airtight container in the fridge for up to two days and reheat gently on the stovetop.
