There is nothing quite like a warm piece of naan bread fresh out of the skillet. Adding a layer of melty mozzarella inside makes it feel like a special treat that everyone at the table will love.

You do not need a fancy tandoor oven to make this at home. These cook up beautifully in a regular pan on your stove, and they are perfect for scooping up your favorite curries or spicy sauces.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon instant yeast
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup warm water
  • 2 tablespoons plain yogurt
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter
  • 2 cloves minced garlic
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh cilantro

7Instructions

  1. 1

In a large bowl, mix the flour, yeast, sugar, and salt.

  2. 2

Add the warm water and yogurt to the flour mixture and stir until a dough forms.

  3. 3

Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until it is smooth, then cover and let it rise in a warm spot for one hour.

  4. 4

Divide the dough into four equal pieces and roll each one out into a flat circle.

  5. 5

Place a spoonful of mozzarella cheese in the center of each circle, then fold the edges up to seal the cheese inside. Roll it out again gently.

  6. 6

Heat a skillet over medium high heat and cook each naan for about 2 minutes per side until golden brown bubbles form.

  7. 7

Mix the melted butter, minced garlic, and cilantro together and brush it over the warm naan before serving.

Tips

Serve these warm for the best stretchy cheese pull. If you have leftovers, keep them in an airtight bag and reheat them in a pan for a minute so they stay soft.
